You may have seen Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust's announcement that they are no longer able to run Birdfair .
In response the RSPB's director of fundraising and communications, Rebecca Munro commented:
“We are immensely proud of our involvement in BirdFair, which over the past 32 years has delighted thousands of people who love birds and raised more than £5m for overseas projects run via Birdlife International. The event has played a massive role in raising awareness of the plight of threatened species like the Gurney’s Pitta, Spoon-billed Sandpiper and Great Bustard, launched initiatives such as the Albatross Task Force, and hosted celebrities and experts from Chris Packham to Jane Goodall and Deborah Meaden.
“At this point in time, we feel it is very unlikely that BirdFair will take place in 2022 because of the lack of lead time for the organisation of a successful event. We are currently in discussions about the future of the BirdFair brand and how we may be able to play a part in whatever comes next. Over the coming months we will be speaking to others who love the BirdFair just as much as we do, in order to understand their views on the future of the event.”
