Over the weekend (11 – 13 June) the Prime Minister joined other G7 leaders in agreeing to a Nature Compact. This commits the UK to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030, and tackle deforestation, marine litter and illegal wildlife trade.
Never before we have seen nature prioritised by the G7 in a way that recognises the importance of a healthy natural world for tackling climate change and for a safe and equitable future for all.
The Nature Compact is a step forward and should be celebrated ahead of this year’s two important UN COP meetings on climate and nature. But, as we have seen many times, words don’t often turn into action and results. Read our more in depth analysis on our saving species blog.
