Accessibility

Before you visit

  • Visitor centre and overflow car park open from 10 am to 4 pm, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Main car park and footpaths always open
  • Free entry
  • Registered assistance, and other, dogs welcome. Water and dog bags available at the Visitor Centre. 

How to get here

  • Two miles north-east of Selsey, on B2145 near Sidlesham
  • Nearest railway station Chichester 5.5 miles (9 km). Taxi rank. Accessible taxis in advance, tel: 01243 774948
  • Bus 51 Chichester-Selsey stops outside. Timetables from Traveline, tel: 0871 200 2233
  • On Sustrans regional route 88 and local public footpath network. Cycle racks available
  • Limited coach parking. Must be pre-booked. 

Car parking 

  • 18 free parking spaces, plus large overflow. Blue Badge bay near entrance
  • Level tarmac surface
  • Level, surfaced path with lighting to visitor centre

Visitor centre 

  • Step-free level entry
  • Displays updated regularly. Maps for Pagham Harbour and Medmerry reserves available, plus other local information and trails.
  • Binoculars and monoculars for hire.
  • Welcome team provide visitor information and assistance
  • Level laminate floor throughout
  • Induction loop
  • Activity programme. Please ask when booking about suitability for your access needs. 

Nature trail

  • Sidlesham Ferry nature trail 1.5 mile circular route, takes about 1 hour. Level path from visitor centre. Shorter loop of 0.5 mile, about 30 minutes
  • Waymarked with numbered posts
  • May become muddy and waterlogged
  • Benches at regular intervals. Some with arms and back support
  • Information lecterns have large print and illustrations.

Viewing facilities

  • Ferry Pool hide, 250 m from visitor centre. Approached by a level, surfaced path. Adapted viewing place
  • Church Norton Hide up steep bank, accessed by steps, tidal footpath and boardwalk
  • Several viewpoints. Many have benches, some with back support
  • Harbour can be viewed from a vehicle at Sidlesham quayside. Park near to the Crab and Lobster Pub on Mill Lane, off Selsey Road. 

Toilets and baby changing facilities

  • Toilets at back of visitor centre
  • One unisex accessible toilet with baby changing facilities. RADAR key from visitor centre during opening hours. Accessed by ramp without resting area

Catering

  • Self-service hot drinks machine and light snacks in visitor centre. Soup in winter, and ice cream in summer
  • Nearest hot food outlets to the Visitor Centre are a cafe 125 yards, the Crab and Lobster pub at Sidlesham Quay 1.5 miles, the Anchor Inn in Sidlesham 2.5 miles, or there are numerous eateries in Selsey 2.5 miles. 

Picnic area

  • Picnic area next to the visitor centre
  • Two benches adapted for wheelchair users
  • Visitors are welcome to eat their own food and drink here. 

Education facilities

  • Classroom next to visitor centre. Holds groups of up to 30 children or 20 adults
  • Room hire £10/hour (pre-booking required)
  • Accessed by ramp with gentle rise (gradient 1:24). Double doors
  • Trained field teachers lead sessions for all ages, abilities and educational needs.
