Summary accessibility statement

Before you visit

  • Many parts of Carsington Water are wheelchair-friendly and you can borrow a chair when you arrive. Two mobility scooters are also available for a small fee.

How to get here

By train

Matlock Bath is the closest station, about 6 miles away. You can catch a bus from there to Carsington.

By bus

Buses run to the Carsington Water car park from Ashbourne, Wirksworth, Matlock and Chesterfield.

By road

The visitor centre is off the B5035 between Ashbourne and Wirksworth. Look out for the brown and white 'Carsington Water' signposts throughout the local area.

Access to facilities

Toilet and baby changing
  • We have three ‘unisex’ disabled toilets, and other normal toilets.
  • There are baby changing facilities at the visitor centre and in the Courtyard.

 

Nature trails access

There's a trail of 8 miles around the reservoir and various smaller ones that are wheelchair- and pushchair-friendly.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed at Carsington Water, with some restrictions.

The shop is all on one level, and is fully accessible with no stepped access.
