Wildlife Walk at Groby Pool

Location: Large pool with meadow and woodland nearby. On the road between Newtown Linford and Groby. Car Park nearby. SK524081

These are morning walks which take place during weekdays. We normally meet around 10.00 a.m. and return to vehicles around midday. Some of the party like to find somewhere for a light lunch though this is, of course, optional.

The walks are in term-time but if any children join us they must be looked after by an adult. Walking distance does not exceed 2 or 3 miles. While the walks do not involve strenuous climbs there are some uphill sections and some rough or marshy paths. You are strongly advised to wear boots or good walking shoes.

Coach Trip to Titchwell RSPB Reserve - Norfolk

Location: Coach leaves from Brockington Building, Loughborough University, Epinal Way, Loughborough where there is ample free car parking.

Whilst Titchwell is changing because of rising sea levels it is still one of the best reserves in the country.

There are the usual range of reedbed birds including Bittern, Water Rail as well as coastal species and usually sea ducks and seabirds. All the summer migrants should be back.

There is an excellent visitor centre, shop and café.

The Top Lodge centre at Fineshade Woods in Northamptonshire is a partnership between the RSPB and the Forestry Commission. Chris Andrews is the Visitor and Promotions officer at the site and his talk will look at the varied and beautiful wildlife to be found in this ancient woodland.

If you wish to do your homework beforehand, just look up Top Lodge, Fineshades Wood on the RSPB website.

Before the talk we will hold our Annual General Meeting - hence the slightly earlier start.

Snettisham is in a perfect position to attract a good range of waders, wildfowl and passerines. When we visit most of the spring migrants should be in, waders will be in summer plumage and we should see some interesting breeding birds such as Mediterranean gull.

There is no visitor centre but there is a nearby café and caravan park shop.

Carl Baggott has had a passion for wildlife, especially birds and mammals, since his early school years. He has been the chairman of the Leicestershire & Rutland Ornithological Society and at present he is the editor of the Leicestershire & Rutland Annual Bird Report.

Tonight's talk is about Carl's local patch. He will guide us through the different habitats and show us many of the species he has recorded at the site.

Here we will see a good range of woodland and upland birds in a beautiful setting. We should see Red Kite, Raven, Pied Flycatcher, Wood Warbler and Redstart amongst others. There are a variety of walks and habitiats to explore here.

What better way to end the season than to visit this seabird spectacular? Superb close up views of Gannets, Kittiwakes, Puffins, Rock Pipits and others give a real insight into seabird breeding and life.
