Weekday Walk at Cossington Meadow

Weekday Walk at Cossington Meadow
RO

Tuesday, 15 June 2010

The walk was attended by 11 people and on a cloudy day good birds were seen by all. The highlight was a Wood Sandpiper, which is a local rarity!

The group also had good views of a Little Owl despite it doing its best to pretend to be a tree trunk! 40 species were seen and by the Geoff Robert's formulae :- number of people x 3 should be less than number of species seen it was very successful!

Little Ringed plovers and Lapwings were only eclipsed by a fly by Kingfisher, the first sighting since the hard winter for many.

Cossington is a beautiful reserve and the cool day prevented the usual Dragonflies and butterflies that are normally common from being seen, but all enjoyed the day, before leaving for lunch.
