As part of National Volunteering Week, the Eastern Moors Partnership is inviting people of all ages to join them in the peak district to get their hands dirty and have a go at a range of volunteering activities.
National volunteering week, 1-7 June, celebrates the incredible impact volunteers have in the not-for-profit and charitable sectors in the UK. During this week, events are taking place across the country, including taster days and celebrations. BBC Springwatch is on board, encouraging everyone to have a go at volunteering in their local countryside.
Bryony Thomson, Community Involvement Ranger, said: "The Eastern Moors is a partnership between two of the UKs largest conservation charities: the RSPB and National Trust. Both charities, and the partnership as an organisation, depend heavily on the dedication of their volunteers.
"Thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund grant and the dedication of volunteers of all ages, interests, skills and time commitments, during 2016 the Eastern Moors Partnership has already planted hundreds of trees, built metres of stone wall and built piles of bird boxes."
On Thursday 2 June, adults are being invited to go along and have a go at conservation volunteering. There will be an opportunity to try out stone walling, wildlife surveying and chat to the Eastern Moors team. There is no need to book, just drop by between 10am-4pm and have a go. Sturdy shoes and weather appropriate clothes must be worn.
Bryony added: "But volunteering isn't just for the grownups. Our fantastic Junior and Youth Rangers make a real impact on the conservation work we do on site. So for young wildlife enthusiasts we are holding a volunteer taster day."
On Sunday 5 June, young visitors are invited to have a go at the family friendly Muck In days, and can drop by anytime between 10am-12.30pm (all ages welcome). For those aged 11 years and over, and who might be looking for an extra challenge, a session will be run between 1-4pm to help people find out more about the Eastern Moors' Youth Ranger programme.
