  • Wildlife Hightlights so far this weekend! (28-29 May 2016) and a bus notice....

    Good morning everyone!

    How are you?

So I just wanted to share some of the recent wildlife highlights!

There has been lots of babies every where!

Dave Cornwell got this fabulous picture of baby cettis warbler fledglings!

The lapwings and redshanks have been amazing us all with aerial displays - largely caused by chasing off crows that happen to be flying past!

We had a lovely view of a glossy ibis yesteday (Saturday) - it popped down onto the Purfleet Scrape, and after an hour or so flew over the reserve, it kept changing it's mind on direction so we got great views as it left round and round!

This morning two avocet were spotted near the Shooting Butts Hide!

There has been lots of invertebrates, reptiles (the lizards are starting to show), and mammals as well so keep your eyes pealed!

Everyone that went out for a walk yesterday was raving abut the brilliant views of a water vole family on the Southern Trail! So cute!

On Friday we had a lovely view of a garganey on the Purfleet Scrape. Pat Hart took this video of the sleeply fella.

    And something completely different...

Earlier in the week, 26 May,  two Ospreys (not the birds!) flew over...

By the way - if you are planning on visiting this weekend SUN 29 & MON 30 MAY... We have just seen this notice from Ensign Bus: Due to Purfleet level crossing being closed on these days, route 44 will be unable to serve The Royal Hotel bus stops.
