What we're looking for

Thousands of people volunteer for the RSPB. As an RSPB volunteer you will be part of our UK-wide team to save nature. Working from our visitor centre, you will present the friendly face to welcome visitors to the reserve. We are looking for enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers to inspire and interact with visitors to the reserve. You will enhance visitor experience by providing information and imparting knowledge about The Lodge reserve and its wildlife, and the work of the RSPB. We want people coming onto our reserve to be met with a smile. You will actively provide a warm welcome for all visitors, thank members for their support and ensure that visitor's needs are understood and met to the best of our ability. RSPB membership really is the lifeblood of the Society and underpins every single thing we do. It helps us fund nature conservation work here and across the UK - not only the ongoing land management of our reserves but also by creating and enhancing magnificent wild spaces for nature and people to enjoy. It is therefore important that you can inspire people about the work we do and warm them up to the idea of membership, and actively recruit new members yourself.

The skills you need

You'll need to have the confidence to strike up conversations with members of the public, a desire to help, an enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation, but most important of all, you'll need a friendly outlook and a ready smile! You'll need to be able to communicate effectively with all age groups and levels of wildlife knowledge. This role is only suitable for over 18's. You do not have to be an expert but an infectious enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation is a must. With a passion for saving nature you will be able to inspire people to become RSPB members.

Your time

One morning or afternoon on Tuesdays, weekends or school holidays
All year round

What's in it for you?

As an RSPB volunteer you are part of something big – a team of amazing and dedicated people who donate their time, energy, talent and skills to help birds and other wildlife. This role will suit someone who loves to meet and talk to visitors and who would gain satisfaction from passing on their passion about wildlife. It's also a great opportunity to work at a unique wildlife reserve learning more about nature, birds and wildlife whilst making a real difference to the work of the RSPB. The RSPB is an active and exciting conservation charity, the largest in Europe. We can help you gain skills and give you a valuable insight into our work.
