What we're looking for

Blacktoft Sands Reserve is looking for a new volunteer to help us to help visitors to get the most out of the amazing wildlife on offer here. Wildlife guides have a great opportunity to share their knowledge and passion to inspire visitors about our wonderful wildlife. The reserve at Blacktoft is nationally important for Marsh Harrier and Bearded Tit and also has phenomenal displays of wading birds in the autumn amongst many other spectacles throughout the year; it will be your role to show these and many more breathtaking displays of nature to our visitors and to help them to make the most of their visits. Working your way around the hides, leading short guided walks or being posted in the visitor centre you will assist our Visitor Experience Officer in describing and explaining what is out around the reserve and make sure that everyone leaves the reserve with a smile on their face.

The skills you need

-The biggest part of the role is talking to people; building rapport and sharing your enthusiasm for nature, therefore you will need good people skills and be willing to approach and talk to a wide range of different people about nature. -A basic knowledge of wildlife and nature is helpful but what is most important is enthusiasm. This role is a great opportunity to learn more and share your knowledge, as such; the team at Blacktoft will provide full training on the animals and plants around the site.

Your time

1 day per month
all year round

What's in it for you?

- This role will suit someone who loves to meet and talk to visitors and who would gain satisfaction from passing on their passion about wildlife. -The role of Wildlife Guide is a great opportunity to work at a unique wildlife reserve learning more about birds and wildlife whilst making a real difference to the work of the RSPB. - You will have access to training in order to help you make the most of your time at Blacktoft. - Being a Wildlife Guide is a great opportunity to gain skills and insight into the work of the RSPB .
