Crook of Baldoon

What we're looking for

The Crook of Baldoon organises a regular work party every Thursday to carry out various habitat management and estate work on the reserve. We are a good friendly bunch with varying skills all of which prove useful at some point in the day and you might be surprised that some of us are not even birdwatchers just enjoy the outdoors and the feeling that we are doing something for nature and wildlife in Dumfries and Galloway. We need some more volunteers to help with estate and habitat management. All of these tasks are vital for conservation and the good management of the site and for access to and around the reserve. Occasionally we go to help at other reserves in Dumfries and Galloway but transport for these work parties is provided.

The skills you need

Enthusiasm and an interest in conservation are essential. No specialist skills are required though a good level of fitness and a desire to contribute to the teams' efforts is essential. You will need an up to date tetanus injection.

Your time

As agreed with the warden

What's in it for you?

Besides being an opportunity to help with the Crook of Baldoon and become part of a great team of volunteers you will learn about the running of the reserve. A chance to enjoy the reserve and the contribution you make to it in your efforts. There is also an opportunity to build up your skills both learnt and life as formal training for certain tasks is given. This is an excellent chance to make a genuine contribution to wildlife conservation and you will gain an insight into the workings of Europe's largest conservation charity.
