Vacancy type:

Rye Meads

What to expect

Rye Meads is a quaint wetland nature reserve situated on the banks of the River Lea. Our management of the site aims to give nature a home to various wetland creatures including the elusive water vole, colourful kingfishers and reed-loving water rails. The reserve's nearest station, Rye House, can be reached directly from Liverpool St Station. Facilities: visitor centre, toilets, car parking.

Your group

Team Challenges are muddy and energetic, but that's all part of the fun! We will supply all tools and the necessary protective equipment such as gloves. No skills are required, just make sure to bring old clothes, waterproofs, plenty of drinking water and packed lunches. Group size: 7 - 30

September - End February

The skills and time provided by corporate teams are incredibly valuable to the RSPB. Corporate work parties help us tackle jobs that would otherwise take our wardens days or even weeks to complete. Employee volunteering also helps us to build community links and valuable business support, and many of our business volunteers return to our reserves with family and friends after their volunteer experience. Some even join as members and become life-long supporters.

How you will help us

Help us with our nature conservation work; we have a variety of scrub removal projects ongoing throughout the year, including willow bashing and reed cutting. All of which benefit our wetland wildlife. Start the day with a presentation introducing you to the reserve and the RSPB, before heading out on your conservation task. Enjoy the afternoon spotting the site's fascinating wildlife with one of our knowledgeable wardens.
