Worcester & Malvern Local Group Leader

Are you a great 'people person'? Our current Group Leader is stepping down and we're looking for someone to step into the role to continue to lead the Worcester & Malvern Local Group.

Vacancy type:
Volunteering at home, Community groups

What we're looking for

Our local groups play an important role supporting the work of the RSPB locally through fundraising, putting on events and inspiring others about the natural world. Importantly, they also provide a focal point for people interested in birds and wildlife to meet throughout the year and share their interest. The Group Leader of the Worcester & Malvern Local Group is stepping down and we are looking for a volunteer to step in and lead the group forward. The Group Leader essentially acts as a conduit between the group and the RSPB, helping the RSPB's work to be communicated within the local community and helping the group to remain successful. The role will be supported both by the regional Volunteering Development Officer and a supportive local group committee.

The skills you need

You need to be able to inspire and lead the committee - good communication skills are vital, as well as good delegation skills, tact and diplomacy. You need to be happy introducing indoor meetings and conducting AGM's and committee meetings, so confidence and clear communication is key. We're essentially looking for someone with good leadership skills. Enthusiasm for the RSPB's work and giving nature a home is important, but you don't need to be a bird expert! If you don't know your grebe from your goosander, or your hobby from your merlin, don't worry - the group is full of enthusiastic and knowledgeable members who will be glad to share their knowledge with you.

Your time

20 or more hours a month on average
5 year term of office
All year round

What's in it for you?

This is your chance to increase awareness about the RSPB and the importance of giving nature a home, in your local area. You will have the chance to work alongside like-minded and enthusiastic RSPB members and encourage an interest in new people to the group as well as to the wider public through events. The RSPB is the country's largest nature conservation charity, working to give nature a home. By volunteering with us, we can help you gain skills and give you a valuable insight into our work.
