What we're looking for

We're looking for someone to be a friendly and welcoming face for visitors who come to experience the incredible wildlife on our Weymouth reserves. You will be an integral part of the team, and be trained up to help run our Discovery Centre as a Duty Manager, leading a team of volunteers, planning and running events and getting to know the nature on the reserves really well! This role has the opportunity to be extremely flexible, offering you the chance to pursue your own projects, and gain experience in a variety of areas including working with our practical and survey team. This role will give you the confidence and training required to makle that first step into a career in conservation.

The skills you need

We are looking for a friendly and outgoing person who is able to talk to people confidently. You should be able to prioritise effectively and work independently, solving problems using your initiative. Experience in hospitality, tourism and/or customer service would be useful. An interest in wildlife is also desirable, but not essential as you will learn fast! You must be 18 years old or over and available for at least 3 months.

You'll also get: • training on CV writing and interview techniques • access to our internal vacancies during your internship • a reference on successful completion of your internship Our internships are designed to offer work experience. However, doing an internship does not, unfortunately, guarantee future employment with the RSPB. The role is based at Radipole, right in the centre of town, just five minutes from the beach and train station. You will see kingfishers, marsh harriers and bearded tits on a regular basis, just by looking out of the visitor centre window!

All the training necessary and background information will be provided and since you'll be giving up your time, it's only fair that we offer to reimburse your travel expenses (up to 25 miles). Please note that this is NOT a residential post.
