What we're looking for
We're looking for friendly enthusiastic people who can help us welcome visitors to our reserve. You do not need to be a birdwatcher or a wildlife expert- what's important is that you can engage with people and get them enthusiastic about nature. We strongly believe that nature is for everyone and we are fully committed to helping you with any support you might need to unlock your potential. We are not yet as representative as we would like of Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds and younger volunteers and we particularly welcome applications that help us address this. Your time and skills could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB and you'll be joining a small, friendly team here at Rye Meads. We are accessible by public transport and pay reasonable expenses, making it easy to volunteer here. In this role you will be the face of the RSPB and you will be: Helping promote the work being undertaken at Rye Meads Nature Reserve to visitors. Ensuring visitors have an excellent day out at Rye Meads by explaining what they can see and do at the reserve. Meeting and talking to visitors including families and children. Telling inspiring stories about nature. Recruiting new members of the RSPB. Hours and days are organised on a rota with typically 4 half days per month, although we can offer 2 half days (minimum). In addition, your support would be particularly appreciated when we are busy i.e.. school holidays and when we have events running).
