Stour Estuary Reserve

What we're looking for

Gardens have a huge part to play in providing safe place for nature to thrive. At Flatford Wildlife Garden we are working to inspire people to make space for nature in their gardens. We need your help to bring Flatford Wildlife Garden alive with your enthusiasm for wildlife, gardening and the RSPB. The main focus of your work will be around encouraging visitors to support the RSPB through becoming members and via donations. The more income we get like this, the more work the RSPB can do in Eastern England and further afield to save our threatened wildlife. RSPB membership really is the lifeblood of the Society and underpins every single thing we do. It helps us fund nature conservation work here and across the UK - not only the ongoing land management of our reserves but also by creating and enhancing magnificent wild spaces for nature and people to enjoy. It is therefore important that you can inspire people about the work we do and warm them up to the idea of membership.

The skills you need

As a new member of the team we'll provide all the training that you need and help you settle in to the role. You will need good English language skills and to be confident enough to start conversations with visitors to the Wildlife Garden. Basic knowledge of wildlife, gardening and the RSPB will be useful along with plenty of enthusiasm, tact and diplomacy.

Your time

Minimum:
2 days a month, or more if available
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
April to October

What's in it for you?

You'll be joining a small, friendly team of volunteers who are keen to see the team grow as well as the garden. The garden is a beautiful place to work and it's a great feeling at the end of the day to know you have inspired visitors with ideas of how to give nature a home in their own gardens. The team works on a flexible half day rota basis; you'll be able to choose to work a whole day or just half, as well as which days you'll be able to help. You'll have lots of opportunities to meet new people, inspire visitors and finish the day feeling like you have made a difference to people and wildlife. If you are looking to build your experience in the conservation sector this could give you a good start in gaining valuable people skills and knowledge about wildlife and the RSPB's work.
