What we're looking for

Open Farm Sunday is one of the best opportunities for farmers to engage the public with where their food comes from. At Park Farm in Thorney, they are also demonstrating how productive farming can go hand in hand with nature, by providing and managing habitats for wildlife. We are looking for passionate and engaging individuals to help us enthuse the public about wildlife friendly farming at one of the largest Open Farm Sunday events in the country. You will be joining tractor trailer rides, alongside farm staff, taking the public around the farm. It will be your role, during the rides, to enthuse people about the amazing work the farm is doing to help the wildlife they have. The farm is located on Sandpit road, Thorney, Peterborough, PE6 0SY.

The skills you need

Alongside the confidence to talk to moderately sized groups, you will have a desire to engage and enthuse people about the wildlife on farmland, a passion for wildlife and conservation is also desirable, but most important of all, you'll need a friendly demeanour and a ready smile! You will need to be comfortable working in an outdoor environment, as well as being able to work independently and to use your own initiative at times. Tractor rides last around 20 minutes, so you might be on your feet for extended periods of time, but don't worry you will have regular breaks. Most importantly you should enjoy working alongside children and families and be able to make their experience an exciting and worthwhile one.

Your time

Minimum:
1 or 2 days and 1/2 a day training
Duration:
9th and 10th June
Period:
9th and 10th June

What's in it for you?

Farm wildlife has seen dramatic declines in recent decades, but there are farms which are working hard to combat this. Through your involvement, you will be helping to demonstrate how this is done, whilst maybe learning something new about farmland conservation. We will provide training on the measures farms can and are taking and the species that are benefiting. You will also receive the necessary safeguarding and health and safety training necessary for the event. If you are looking to gain experience in this sector, this event could provide you with the perfect chance to enhance your knowledge and skills. You will also have the opportunity to see and enjoy some of the attractions at Park Farm's Open Farm Sunday in your breaks and over lunch, including dancing sheep! There may also be the opportunity to be involved with future events.
