What we're looking for

The RSPB's purpose is to save nature. People's growing disconnection from nature is a significant strategic threat to nature conservation and we must take a lead in reversing the trend. Only 10% of children regularly play in natural places, compared to 40% in the 1970s. Contact with nature in childhood has many benefits – across health, well-being and educational outcomes. But fewer children are developing a connection to nature, and this will translate into fewer champions of the natural world in the near future as young people are tomorrow's conservationists. Our Youth groups have an important role to play in their local communities, helping to give young people the chance to get to know their local wild places and learn how they can help to save nature.

The skills you need

•You need to enjoy working with young people and have a passion for nature. You don't need to be an expert as you will learn a lot as you go along. •You will need energy, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. •Be able to lead fun environmental activities and games for young people which will encourage them to explore the natural world and help them to develop a concern for the environment. • Enjoy planning and leading activities •The ability to communicate with young people and their families. •The ability to lead, organise other volunteers and work as a team. •Basic computer skills desirable, training will be given in the use of our on-line support system •Be an excellent local representative of the RSPB
