Volunteer Trainer (databases) – Brighton or London

Wednesday 18 July 2018
Vacancy type:
Office and administration, Volunteering at home
South East England Regional Office

What we're looking for

We're looking for two volunteers who ideally have a training and/or IT background to deliver up to three training sessions a year on our in-house volunteer database (VMS). Number of trainees (staff and volunteers) tends to range from between 3 to 6 volunteers for each training session. We'd see to the booking side of things, i.e. organising which trainees attend which course, and book the VMS training laptops, booking the training room, so all you'd need to do is: •Set up the training room the afternoon before the training day itself •Deliver the training day (10-4pm) As long as it's during a weekday, you could choose on which day to run the course. On occasion we may ask you to deliver 1 to 1 VMS training sessions online. We'd also ask you to update the training, as and when it may be required, e.g. to reflect organisational and business process changes. We would train you in how to use VMS and how to run the training courses (plus one-to-one training) before starting in the role. Ongoing support will of course be given.

The skills you need

Ideally we'd like you to come from either a training and/or IT background, with some experience of training others. Other skills include: •Experience of training others to use IT systems •Great initiative, ability to work on your own and part of a team (with ongoing support from us of course!) •Experience and confidence in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel •Confidence communicating with a variety of audiences •A good all round 'people person'! Desirable (but not essential) •Experience working with databases •Experience of Microsoft Publisher

Your time

Flexible, typically 2 consecutive days spaced out 3 times through the year
All year round

What's in it for you?

This is a great opportunity to use your existing skills and learn new ones, whilst working as part of a busy, friendly team in our region. You will meet many new people, staff and other volunteers alike. You will have plenty of opportunity to get a better understanding of how the RSPB operates, and you will be able to directly contribute to the conservation work that takes place in the South East.

Based in London or Brighton with occasional travel around the South East region. We will reimburse you for any out-of-pocket travel expenses, send you copies of our bi-annual volunteer newsletter, and of course give you support in your role. There will be plenty of scope to develop and expand the role if you wish to do so. Our busy volunteer team supports and develops volunteering within the RSPB and works to ensure our volunteers have a satisfying and rewarding experience. Nine out of ten RSPB volunteers would recommend volunteering with the RSPB to a friend or family member. Our goal is to make it ten out of ten!
