What we're looking for

The Exeter & District Local Group plays a vital role supporting the RSPB locally through a mixture of inspiring talks, guided walks and trips, and other events. This volunteer led group has been running for over 40 years, providing a focal point to meet friendly and like-minded people, while learning more about birds and wildlife. We are looking for someone to become part of the group as our Membership Secretary! This role is a key committee post which helps ensure the smooth running of the group. Your primary role will be to keep accurate records of the local group membership, with due regard to the current data protection regulations. Using information from the membership database, you will arrange delivery of the newsletter and other occasional mailings to local group members, by post and e-mail. With support from other members, you will help recruit people to the Exeter & District local group, and to the RSPB, and welcome new members by sending them a letter with the latest newsletter and programme. You will manage the annual renewal of subscriptions, liaising with our Treasurer to track standing order payments, and you will administer the 100 Club, which is a raffle to raise additional funds for the RSPB.

The skills you need

You will need to be comfortable using computer software to keep accurate records of the local group membership. Ideally, you will have experience using Microsoft Excel and Word, but training can be given if necessary. You should also have a suitable broadband connection to communicate with group members. A group laptop could be loaned to you if required. You should be able to work methodically, ensuring that the membership database is accurate and personal information is kept confidential. You should have a friendly, engaging manner, and be ready to encourage new members to join the group and the RSPB.

Your time

Minimum:
4-15 hours per month
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
Year Round

What's in it for you?

This role brings you into contact with the wide range of people who make up the RSPB Exeter and District local group. You will be amongst like-minded friends and be a much-valued part of the group committee. You will have the opportunity to take part, and help, in the vast range of activities we offer, including indoor meetings with talks, outdoor walks and trips, and other social and fund-raising events, organised by other members of the committee.
