What we're looking for

RSPB Old Hall Marshes is a wild and wonderful place. Although a quiet visitor reserve, we are open at the weekend and throughout the week. We require volunteers to help us lock and open the reserve, mostly at the weekend but occasionally during the week. Aside from this vital task which is important for the security and wellbeing of the reserve , there will also be opportunities throughout the summer to join and lead breeding bird surveys and monitoring. Help undertake surveys on lesser known species, check stock including our friendly herd of konik ponies and ensure the reserve is a safe and tidy place for our visitors.

The skills you need

An interest in conservation is beneficial but not essential. We value enthusiasm, the ability to work in a small team but use your own initiative as required.

Your time

Minimum:
1 or 2 days a month
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
All year round

What's in it for you?

An opportunity to help with reserve management, become a highly valued part of a small team and learn about the running of the reserve. A unique chance to enjoy the reserve when very few people are about and build up your skills. Come and explore this remote place and play a key part in its protection and ongoing management. You will gain a valuable insight into the workings of Europe's largest conservation charity and the work we do.

Notes

All the training necessary and background information will be provided and since you'll be giving up your time, it's only fair that we offer to re-imburse your travel expenses (up to 25 miles). The RSPB speaks out for birds and wildlife, tackling the problems that threaten our environment. We rely upon memberships and donations to fund our work. By volunteering your time and skills, you could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB. Nature is amazing – help us keep it that way.
