What we're looking for

Turtle doves are in trouble; they are vulnerable to global extinction (IUCN Red List of Endangered Species). They have suffered a 94% UK population decline since 1995 and a 78% decline across Europe since 1980. At this current rate of change if we don't help this species scientists calculate that complete UK extinction as a breeding species will be a real possibility. As part of our wider Operation Turtle Dove work, we are looking for someone to assist with the development and delivery of a project plan to create key habitats on one of our corporate partners sites to support Turtle Dove in the central and south eastern regions. This will involve contacting and liaising with monitoring volunteers to create, restore and manage specific habitats for Turtle Dove. For the right candidate, expansion of the role to other RSPB priority species, including maintaining and managing an established seasonal project on Twite in Derbyshire.

The skills you need

Some project management experience is essential, along with good communication skills and diplomacy. In addition, some wildlife knowledge/interests is an advantage. You'll also need to have access to a car, as not all the sites can be reached by public transport, and be willing to travel. Travel expenses are available.

What's in it for you?

This a fabulous opportunity to have a positive impact on some of England's most rare and declining birds. You'll be mentored by a conservation adviser and can develop your project management skills.
