What we're looking for
RSPB local groups are run by volunteers to be the voice of the RSPB in the local community. They offer our members and the public the opportunity to get more involved in our work to save nature. Groups run activities like indoor talks and outdoor walks; they fundraise and campaign for the RSPB; and attend local community events to inspire people to take action for nature. We're looking for the right person to lead the Lancaster Local Group. You don't need to be an expert in birds - people skills and enthusiasm are much more important for this role. Responsibilities: We want someone to lead the group and help develop a range of events and activities that will get people involved, attract new group members and make sure people enjoy themselves. Looking after and inspiring people is the main job, but we'll also need your admin skills. You'll attend a two day workshop at our HQ in Bedfordshire where you'll be given full training and get to meet staff and other volunteers. You will chair group committee meetings, at least three each year, and an AGM, after which you'll help prepare an annual report and financial return. You will also be the main point of contact with RSPB HQ and staff and keep the group up to date on any news. It will also be your job to make sure the group abides by its constitution and represents the RSPB as it should. In all this you will have the support of the group committee and a full-time Local Groups Officer who will always be there to help.
