What we're looking for

Our small, friendly team needs more volunteers willing to join in and help with practical outdoor work so that we can continue to give nature a home on the Solent coast. Giving nature a home on our wetland and coastal reserves is a big job which requires many passionate and dedicated people to achieve. There are a host of practical tasks that need to be completed to keep everything in good condition and allow nature to thrive. We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help out on our group work parties as well as people who are happy to crack on with tasks on their own around the site as directed. The types of work you're likely to get a chance to help with range from vital habitat management works in a variety of ecological niches (shingle, reedbed, grassland and woodland), keeping our extensive trail network in good condition, carrying out vegetation cutting or removal for key species conservation, helping to check and repair our miles of fencing, or fixing the occasional signpost - as well as an extensive list of random, ad-hoc jobs.

The skills you need

You don't need any special practical skills to join our volunteer team, just lots of enthusiasm and a willingness to muck in and have a go. You will need to be happy being on your feet and working outdoors for the day. Sometimes there will be an opportunity to use DIY skills and we welcome anyone with specific practical skills they're able to make use of.

Your time

Minimum:
1-2 days per month
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
All year round

What's in it for you?

It's a great opportunity to get outdoors, learn more about running a reserve, build new skills and make a genuine contribution to conserving wildlife. If you are looking for something to keep you active, an excuse to get out of the house or just something different to do, come and have a go. Or if you are looking to build a career in the conservation sector, this could be a great first step.
