Biodiversity action plan

It’s important to know which habitats and wildlife can be found on your school grounds, but it’s just as important to know what’s missing and how to help.

Use this activity to make an action plan for boosting biodiversity and creating homes for nature at your school. It will help students apply knowledge, use investigative skills, put science into action and take ownership of a project that will make a tangible difference to wildlife living on school grounds.

It’s important to keep bird feeders, bird tables and bird baths clean, especially when welcoming wildlife into an area. Wash them regularly to keep the birds that use them healthy.

This activity supports the following subjects: Science, Geography, Citizenship.

Estimated time: 1-2 hours Season: All year Skill level: Not too tricky

Instructions

Plan and carry out an investigation into the biodiversity of the school grounds. What homes for nature do you already have? Your discoveries from the other activities including habitat explorers and bioblitz will help.

Use the Nature Scorecards to help you assess your findings. A great way to bring science to life.
