All you need to do is spend an hour of your choice counting the birds in your garden. It's that simple!
Register online before the day to receive reminders and your free pack.
Watch and record the number of birds in your garden, or nearby green space.
Submit your results live from your device, or by mail if you'd rather fill out a paper form.
You can complete your results on your desktop, laptop or smartphone during Big Garden Birdwatch.
Our live bird counter is quick and easy to use. It will even keep you busy with hints, tips and trivia during the hour. So, why not save the trees for the birds and go digital this year?
The RSPB is about far more than just birds. We protect threatened birds, other wildlife and the places where they live, so they will always be there for us and future generations. We’ve included non-native wildlife in the survey too, so we can see where it is found.
You may not see these creatures in your hour watching (especially grass snakes, slow worms and hedgehogs, which are hibernating now), but we’d like to know if any of them visit your garden or park and, if so, roughly how often.
No problem, we've got the answers right here for you.
Watch the birds in your garden or local green space for one hour during the Birdwatch weekend. Record the highest number of species you see at any one time, rather than totalling them up over the hour, as you may record the same bird twice.
The good old British weather has thrown all kinds of different conditions at us during the many years of the Birdwatch. Up and down the country, over time, the results even out to show us what we need to know.
Don't worry, we still want your results. All information we receive is incredibly helpful, as surveys are as much about what's missing as what's spotted.
No! Big Garden Birdwatch is free to anyone who wants to participate. But, you never know, you might get hooked, in which case go directly to rspb.org.uk/join
We create a "snapshot" of the bird numbers in each region, and, with previous years' results, they paint a bigger picture of what's happening to our UK bird populations. It makes it easier to spot species that are in trouble, so we can begin to help their recovery.
