Hi guys, I'm sure you've had this one before and the images are awful so I apologise in advance! This one has me stumped, though I'm leaning more towards a female Sparrowhawk (it was surprisingly large however). It was seen over the Forest of Dean which is known for its Goshawks. Please lend me your expertise and help me identify this bird! Thanks so much, J

  • Yes the slightly rounded tail certainly says Goshawk as do the white undertail coverts in the 3rd photo and the broader less rounded wings. So Goshawk for me too.

  • Looking at the bulk and the flaring behind the wings, I would go for Goshawk. As you say FOD, is good for Goshawk and I have seen them from New fancy viewpoint and Symonds Yat.

  • looking at the tail i would incline towards goshawk  t m

  • Yes I would go for Goshawk too,the tail and rounder wings plus the thick waist just seem right in my opinion.

  • Great thank you everyone!
