There are five viewing screens, three open viewing shelters and one hide at the reserve. Some of the open viewing areas have seating.
Our trails will take you through some of the most important habitats on the reserve, giving you a chance to get close to all sorts of wildlife. There are three to choose from.
Holywell Short Trail: Short and sweet, this 1 mile (1.5 km) trail is perfect for little legs, or for when you only have an hour to spare!
Ferry Lagoon Trail: Wander around the largest lagoon and call in at the viewing shelters as you go. Allow a couple of hours for this 2.5 mile (4 km) trail – a mixture of hard and grassy paths which can get muddy.
Elney Loop Trail: Explore this 3 mile (4.5 km) trail in a morning or afternoon. Lined with trees and hedges, this walk offers great views over the lakes. A mixture of gravel and grassy paths that can get muddy. Routes on a range of surfaces including hard surfaces, rolled gravel and grass. Mostly flat, some gentle slopes. Wooden signposts mark the way and distances are provided. Benches, viewpoints and information boards are provided at regular intervals along many of the paths. Kissing gates and bridle gates may be encountered along some of the paths.
Our largest picnic area is located at the southern edge of Ferry Lagoon.
There is also a picnic table at the bus shelter and a sheltered seating area in the car park.
There is a picnic area suitable for wheelchairs very close to the central welcome area. A level and colour-contrasted road crossing connects the central welcome area to a picnic area and lake-edge platform.
Tables with space for wheelchairs and mobility vehicles are available here. They are positioned on firm, level ground accessed via a gently sloping, hardened path.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and drink to enjoy on site.

We don’t have any baby changing facilities here. The nearest facilities are located at Cambridge Services, A14, Junction 24.
BBQs are a fire risk, endangering other people and the precious wildlife and habitats here. They are not permitted on the reserve at any time.
Although we have no visitor centre here, information is provided via interpretation in the car park and around the trails, to help you make the most of your visit. This reserve does not have any staff on site.
We don't have a café here. The nearest refreshments at are at Cambridge Services, A14, Junction 24. There are pubs that serve food in Fenstanton, Fen Drayton, Swavesey and Over. We recommend you bring your own food and drinks if this is likely to affect your visit.
Restrictions
Dogs are welcome on the public footpaths, bridleways and most of the routes on the reserve. Please keep to these designated routes only.
We have two areas where dogs are not allowed, as disturbance to wildlife is likely. These are at Moore Lake hide and the path up to and including the seasonal viewpoint at Ferry Mere. No dogs are permitted here other than assistance dogs.
Assistance dogs are welcome in all parts of the reserve.
