About
Lower Lough Erne Islands Reserve in County Fermanagh is the most westerly of all RSPB reserves in the UK. You'll find over 40 islands on this large freshwater lake, home to an array of Lapwings, Curlews, Snipe and a unique inland colony of breeding Sandwich Terns.
Many of the islands are managed as lowland wet grassland meadows or broadleaf woodland sites. A species-rich hay meadow can be found at Lowery Farm, and a large area of forestry at Castle Caldwell.
Take a leisurely stroll around the forest trails and look across to some of the islands, which make up most of the reserve. In the summer, you can visit two of the islands – North Island and Lusty More – by boat.
At a glance
The RSPB does not manage a car park here. Car parking is provided by Northern Ireland Forest Service at Castle Caldwell Forest. No height restrictions. No lighting.

BBQs are a fire risk, endangering other people and the precious wildlife and habitats here. They are not permitted on the reserve at any time.
Dogs on leads welcome at all times. Dogs are only allowed on public footpaths and bridleways
Assistance dogs are welcome in all parts of the reserve.
