Help a hedgehog

Discover how you can help your local hedgehogs by offering them food and water.

Get ready

Hedgehogs are much-loved night-time visitors. Put out food for hungry hogs and you will help them build up their fat reserves for their long winter hibernation.

With the UK population of hedgehogs declining alarmingly, it’s vital that we help our prickly friends.

Foods good for hedgehogs:

  • Sunflower hearts
  • Chopped nuts (unsalted)
  • Wet cat or dog food (not fish- or beef-based)
  • Crushed cat biscuits
  • Cooked potatoes
  • Minced meat

It's also really important to offer hedgehogs a drink. In dry weather they can get very thirsty!
