5 min readRSPB Scotland has appointed a new director to lead the nature conservation charity.
Charlie Hogg will join the RSPB from 8 January 2027 after more than 20 years in public service with the Scottish Government.
She has held a range of senior leadership roles spanning policy, strategy, finance and delivery. Most recently she has led the Economic Growth Unit, bringing together multidisciplinary teams and working closely with Ministers, senior leaders and partners across Scotland.
Charlie said: “I’m delighted to be joining RSPB Scotland. Nature is part of what makes Scotland such a special place, and protecting it is one of the defining responsibilities we have for future generations. For me, this role is an opportunity to take the experience I’ve built over many years in public service and put it to work for something I care deeply about.
“There is already extraordinary expertise, passion and commitment across RSPB Scotland, and I’m looking forward to listening and learning from colleagues, volunteers, members, communities and partners. The scale of the challenge facing nature is significant, but so is the opportunity. I want to help build the partnerships and public support that turn Scotland’s ambitions for nature into lasting, visible recovery.”
Charlie’s career has also included five years in the First Minister’s Policy Unit, working across key strategic issues facing Scotland. She is a non-executive director of The Wise Group, a social enterprise focused on supporting people and communities.
Beyond her work experience, Charlie has a personal connection with nature and the environment and enjoys spending time in Scotland’s incredible landscapes.
James Robinson, Chief Operating Officer, RSPB said: “We are delighted to welcome Charlie to the RSPB. At a time when nature is facing significant threats and the need to ensure its protection and recovery has never been more important her knowledge and passion will be invaluable.
“She brings an exceptional breadth of experience from more than 20 years in public service, with a strong track record of strategic leadership, a deep understanding of Scotland’s policy and political environment and success in bringing people and partners together to deliver change. Crucially, she also brings a personal commitment to the RSPB’s mission and her love for the natural world, with a strong belief that we can achieve positive outcomes for nature.
“Across RSPB Scotland we have talented and committed teams, supported by our members, volunteers and partners. I look forward to what we can achieve together under Charlie’s leadership and am excited to work with her to help create a future where nature thrives in Scotland.”
RSPB Scotland is part of the RSPB, the UK’s largest nature conservation charity. As Director, Charlie will lead RSPB Scotland’s work to protect and restore nature across the country. She will work with colleagues, volunteers, partners, policymakers and communities to help drive forward the charities efforts to recover, protect and restore important wildlife and landscapes across Scotland.
