As May comes to a close and June emerges it’s the time of the year where the RSPB’s wildlife hot lines are red hot with worried callers who have seen baby birds they fear have been abandoned by their parents and want to help.
There are many reasons why a chick could have ended up sitting on the lawn looking rather lost. At such a young ages baby birds, can be rather clumsy so often fall out of the nest, but there is no need to worry, it’s very rare for parents to completely abandon their chicks.
