About
Tetney Marshes is a mosaic of habitats on the Humber Estuary and a haven for wetland birds. There are stretches of sandy beach edged with dunes, mudflats, salty lagoons, and salt marsh. In fact, the salt marsh is one of the largest areas of this threatened habitat on the east coast. Redshanks rely on the marsh, and we’re proud to have 70 pairs at Tetney Marshes. It also attracts wintering Twites and Hen Harriers.
As for our salty lagoons, they’re home to a community of specially-adapted wildlife, including the rare Lagoon Sand Shrimp. The intertidal mud is a retreat for waders and wildfowl. Head to the reserve in autumn and winter to see flocks gather in their tens of thousands. See if you can spot Dark-bellied Brent Geese, Knots, Grey and Golden Plovers and Sanderlings among them.
We manage the reserve for the benefit of all the wildlife that calls it home.

There is no RSPB car park here. Humberston Fitties car park next to the nature reserve is owned by North East Lincolnshire Council.

The car park is locked at closing time with a £30 call out fee if you are locked in.

We have a combination of Public Right of Way and permitted paths around the site, the walk from Humberston Fitties car park to Horseshoe Point is 7km and is not a circular walk.
There is no access across the saltmarsh or along the beach. This is to avoid scaring-off the wildlife that lives here and also for your safety due to high tides. Please keep on the public rights of way.

Disturbing wildlife does more than simply causing it to move away; it uses up their energy, decreasing their chance of survival regardless of season.
There are several dog waste bins in the car park, we ask that you please use these and pick up after your dog.
Assistance dogs are welcome in all parts of the reserve.
BBQs are a fire risk, endangering other people and the precious wildlife and habitats here. They are not permitted here at any time.
