Legacy of broadcaster and naturalist will live on in those he inspired.

RSPB staff and volunteers have been paying tribute following the death of Bill Oddie. The keen birdwatcher and broadcaster was an inspiration to many and will be fondly remembered.
"We are saddened by the death of Bill Oddie, whose love and knowledge of birds inspired millions. Bill was a longstanding Vice President of the RSPB and in 1997 was honoured with the RSPB's most prestigious award, the RSPB Medal.
“As a much-loved broadcaster and naturalist Bill encouraged people to not only notice, but respect and protect the natural world around them. His legacy will live on in every person he inspired."
“Bill didn’t just love birds, his knowledge came from years of experience in the field, and from that came his support of bird conservation, in the UK and among BirdLife partners abroad.
“He was generous in the time he gave to causes close to his heart. Not just by giving his support in name, but by pitching in with the practicalities.
“I well remember when the RSPB appealed for volunteers to help open 100,000+ responses to a petition on illegal hunting in France, Bill turned up at the RSPB UK headquarters, The Lodge in Sandy and spent an afternoon opening envelopes alongside the rest of us”.
