Something terrible is happening in the waters around the UK. Much of our marine life, above and below the waves, is disappearing under increasing pressure from human activities. Sandeels, the staple food for many seabirds, are just not there anymore and chicks are starving to death. But it doesn't have to be like this.
We have the national and international laws needed to protect our marine wildlife, including seabirds, and the process of selecting these sites and forming a network of marine protected areas is underway. Unfortunately, the needs of some of our most precious sealife are not being considered properly.
As things stand there is a real risk that seabirds, and other marine wildlife, will remain unprotected. Please step up and sign our pledge calling on ministers to safeguard our seabirds at sea now.
If you live in England, Scotland or Wales we will ensure that the government ministers responsible for the designation of protected sites are aware of the strength of support for our campaign.
In Northern Ireland, a law has yet to be passed to designate sites. We will continue our campaign for this vital legislation, and deliver your signature to the minister responsible for bringing forward a marine law.
