Dove Stone Celebration Wood

Celebration Wood is a peaceful place to remember a loved one. Part of the Peak District National Park, the wood offers glorious views over Dove Stone Valley. What better way to commemorate a loved one than by dedicating a corner of England’s woodland to their memory?

About Celebration Wood

Resident peregrine falcons can be seen all year round and in winter mountain hares stand out in their white coats as they sunbathe on rocks.

Choosing the perfect tree

Choose which tree you feel will best represent your loved one from sessile oak, rowan, common alder, silver birch and bird cherry.

Native wildflowers will be planted around the base of the tree. You'll have the opportunity to select a pair of handmade ceramic leaf or bird-shaped markers, dedicated to your loved one. One of the markers can be hung on the tree, the other is for you to keep as a memento.

Growing Together

In the Peak District, we’re working in partnership with United Utilities to restore a vast area of damaged peatland for the benefit of wildlife and people. Our work is helping prevent carbon release into water and air – a major driver of climate change.

The new Celebration Wood nestles in the valley next to a picturesque reservoir. A mix of native trees provides the ideal home for an array of wildlife, as well as a tranquil space for you to remember your loved one.

We're here to help

We will do all we can to make your planting day as special as possible. You are welcome to attend the planting and watch in the tranquility of the wood, or be involved in the planting itself. If you're unable to attend the planting, our team can plant your chosen tree on your behalf and send a picture.

For more information telephone our Celebration Wood Officer Claire Johnston by calling 07395 852252 or email Claire.johnston@rspb.org.uk. Claire will help you find out what tree you would like, and discuss the tree-planting arrangements with you, including details of your marker if you would like one.

Planting a tree in our Celebration Wood is a wonderful way to remember a loved one. Your tree will be a living, lasting tribute which will help us grow Dove Stone’s beautiful woodland.

Your kind donation – our suggested amount is £495 – will cover the cost of purchasing and caring for the tree as well as the creation and maintenance of Celebration Wood. It will also support wider work around Dove Stone and throughout the RSPB.

You are welcome to return to the wood as often as you wish as your tree grows and becomes part of a rich and diverse habitat for nature to thrive.
