Early Bird Challenge Fundraising

The challenge
- The RSPB is inviting you to fundraise for our charitable cause by challenging yourself to get outside early and discover nature on your doorstep by attempting to walk or run a sponsored 73km over 30 days. You can break the distance down into 2.5km every day or wing it with a mix of round-the-block strolls and longer weekend outings. Make your daily dog walks part of your challenge, invite a loved one to join you, or tackle it solo finding all the company you need in the birds and trees. Be an Early Bird for every bird.
- The challenge is free to enter.
By creating an RSPB fundraising page and thus registering for the Early Bird Challenge, you agree to our Terms and Conditions below:
Registering for the Early Bird Challenge

By taking on the challenge, I acknowledge that I have read and understood the safety guidance and these terms and conditions and agree to abide by them.

I acknowledge that the Early Bird Challenge is a fundraising event organised by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (a charity registered in England and Wales with charity number 207076 and in Scotland with OSCR number SC037654) (“RSPB”).

I also acknowledge that Online Giving Ltd, a company incorporated in England and Wales having its registered offices at Office 6, 155 Minories, London, EC3N 1AD, with company number 06886190 (“Enthuse”) are providing its platform to facilitate fundraising for this challenge and that I need to agree to any Enthuse terms of use and privacy, copyright and security policies on their website to use its platform, which I should read.

I understand that by registering for the Early Bird Challenge I am creating a fundraising page on the Early Bird Challenge Enthuse page.

I understand that the information I provide to register for the Early Bird Challenge will be shared with the RSPB and used by the RSPB in accordance with the RSPB Privacy Policy.

I understand that the RSPB is not responsible for my Enthuse fundraising account and I must contact Enthuse about any issues I encounter with my account.
Fundraising
- When fundraising for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB): I understand that all sponsor forms and monies should be forwarded to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), even if I do not complete my challenge. I understand that all funds raised must be payable to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) in British pound sterling. I will carry out my fundraising in accordance with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) guidance.
- This fundraising event is being facilitated via the Enthuse platform. However, if sponsorship money is given to you by other means, you agree for this to be donated to the RSPB within 1 month of the end of your challenge.
- If you decide not to participate in the challenge, you are responsible for contacting your sponsors to inform them that you are no longer taking part and confirming with them if they remain happy for you to donate their sponsorship money to the RSPB or return it to them in accordance with their wishes.
Event risks, medical conditions & liability
- I confirm that I am physically fit and in good health to safely take part in the Early Bird Challenge. I have no known condition that would affect the ability to safely complete the challenge or would cause a risk or danger to myself or others.
- I have read the safety guidance provided.
- I acknowledge that I am participating in this challenge at my own risk and that the RSPB cannot be held liable for any injury, accident, loss, damage, or public liability caused or sustained before, during, or after the event as a result of my participation, unless such liability cannot be excluded or limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by RSPB negligence.
- I understand that I am responsible for my own safety and my own actions (including the safety of my possessions) whilst undertaking this challenge.
- I understand I must have informed a parent or guardian that I am fundraising for this challenge and be accompanied by a responsible adult if I’m under the age of 18, to participate in the Early Bird Challenge.
Communications
- By registering to this challenge, we will use your contact details to provide information, updates and resources relating to the challenge. We may contact you about matters connected to the challenge by email, phone or postal address you provide to enthuse.
- We rely on our legitimate interest to send these communications. You can opt-out of receiving such communication at any time by emailing communityfundraising@rspb.org.uk
Gift Aid eligibility
- I understand that donations made by me or my connected persons (such as family members) may not be eligible for Gift Aid if I receive a benefit from the donation. This includes any entry fees, giveaways, or costs associated with participating in the challenge.
- I understand that I must not collect any Gift Aid from my family sponsors if I am a recipient of a benefit during this challenge.
Connected Persons Rule:
For the purposes of Gift Aid, a connected person includes:
- Your spouse or civil partner.
- Your relatives such as brothers, parents, or grandchildren.
- The spouse or civil partner of a relative.
- Your business partners.

Governing law
- These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales and the courts of England shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
Safety Guidance
General
- If you have underlying health conditions (i.e. heart disease, asthma, lung conditions) or any other medical conditions that might affect your ability to take part in the challenge, or if you are pregnant, then please seek appropriate medical advice before proceeding.
- Do not take part in the challenge under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- The RSPB do not recommend anyone under the age of 18 participates in the challenge unless supervised by an adult.
- This challenge is entirely at your own risk, so please assess your ability and safety before you participate.
- The RSPB strongly advise you let friends / family know about your participation in this challenge and your planned routes and whereabouts while participating.
- Never go beyond your comfort zone or take risks that may jeopardise your safety.
