Volunteer with us

Everyone's welcome when it comes to saving nature. All it takes is a little of your time and talents.

There are so many ways you can use your time, skills, and passion to help save nature. Find out how to get involved as an RSPB volunteer and be inspired by those who already have.

Why volunteer with the RSPB?

The RSPB brings people together – people like you – to protect the things that matter to us all. By volunteering for the RSPB you’ll meet new people, have amazing experiences, and learn new skills, all while making a positive impact for nature. Volunteering with the RSPB could also help improve your wellbeing. Whatever your motivation and no matter how much time you can spare, there will be something you can do.

For my first assignment, I spoke with one of the RSPB's loveliest volunteers and was honoured to be able to share her story and bring attention to some of the work she has been doing over more than a decade with the organisation. I'm looking forward to writing about many more people and projects in the years ahead!" - Amy Brewer, Volunteer Copywriter.

See how people just like you are helping to restore nature

Spend a little time with staff and volunteers at RSPB Culbin Sands who are working to restore important dune habitats.

The outlook and attitude of the staff makes the RSPB a very easy organisation to volunteer for. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. You are made to feel part of the team and trusted.

Residential volunteering

Whether you’d like to gain hands-on conservation experience or simply want to try something new, residential volunteering is a brilliant way to meet people, gain experience and discover some of the UK’s best places for nature.

We offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities on over 40 of our nature reserves across the UK, including practical work, habitat management, surveying, and visitor engagement. Placements can vary from one week to twelve months.

RSPB Local Groups

Want to do something in your local community? We have a network of over 120 RSPB Local Groups across the UK. These incredible volunteer-led groups make a difference for nature in their local communities.

From installing nest boxes and conducting wildlife surveys to fundraising, outreach and campaigning for change, each group brings people and nature closer together.

With guided walks, expert talks and day trips, Local Groups create opportunities to discover wildlife, connect with like-minded people, and become part of a welcoming community.

I never cease to be amazed by the difference RSPB volunteers are making for birds, the natural world, and the RSPB. Volunteers are the heart of our organisation, and we couldn’t do what we do without them." - Beccy Speight, Chief Executive Officer, RSPB.
